Cherish What's Important

So, is everyone ready for Christmas? I've worked all week, it seems. Gathering the many packages that have arrived (gifts I ordered) and wrapping them. Finishing the decorations. Preparing for a Christmas Party we're hosting for about 40 people tomorrow. Etc.

And... I've loved it all! Not surprising, because I love Christmas.

That being said, I haven't made very many cards this week. Only 10. But that's okay. It's been a GREAT week!

Today's card was inspired by Chapter 49 of the book 50 Truths Worth Knowing.

On Your To-Do List,
It's a Good Idea
to Put People First

Laura, a mother of two young children, often found herself too busy. The To Do list included many things - scouting meetings, chaperoning field trips, shuttling children from one school activity to another, assisting with homework, and on and on. It was often difficult to juggle everything that needed to get accomplished... and adding just one more item to an already bulging To Do List could be "fatal".

Such is what happened one day when the delicate balance of life careened into disaster. At 4:30 she was frantically trying to get to the next thing on the list - rushing her daughter into her coat without really listening to a word her daughter was saying. Then... THEN... she remembered that the items on the list were not nearly important as the daughter she was in essence ignoring. So she stopped. Stopped and looked deeply into her daughter's eyes, apologizing for not listening. She asked her daughter to tell her again and this time she listened.

Then she turned to her son and asked him to tell her about his day and she listened to him, too.

Granted, they were 5 minutes late arriving at the next destination. But Laura also realized that she was happier in that moment than she'd been all day. Why? Because she'd connected to the most precious people in her life.
