Peek at My Calendar

Say what???

Yes... it's a PEEK AT MY WEEK and a CALENDAR GIRL kind of day, so you'll see both of those in this blog post.

First, the Calendar Girl Challenge.

Oh my! Kelly is Miss February and you'll never guess what she asked us to do. *gasp (She asked us NOT to stamp on our cards/projects - except a sentiment was allowed.)

Here is her challenge in her own words:

February's Challenge is Fancy Schmancy Fabulous Fabric!

That’s right – we’re getting fancy this month with .... Fabric!
I thought we’d shake things up a bit and try something we haven’t done before and create with fabric – fabric scraps – fabric flowers, panels, and/or the whole card! Think flowers, trees, houses, even holiday ornaments, etc –
the choice is yours BUT ....

You cannot stamp your cards this month!

You may use a sentiment as a compliment to your card but the fabric (or fabric ‘element’) must be the focal point of your card.

You can do this, ladies! No sewing required! Glue, glue dots, Aileens, etc ...
show us your fancy, your schmancy, your fabulous fabric cards!

Let's do this!

Well, the ideas were just whirling around in my head. I have wanted to use my sewing machine and actually sew on a card for quite a while.... so first thought that's what I'd do. BUT then I was at the thrift store (you know me and my treasure hunts)... and look what I found....................................

Yep, an idea was born!

I used the little fabric (felt) pieces and some brads and crochet thread and put together a  little mouse on my card!

I also used LACE... can you see it???  (of course you can't!)

Here it is:

I ran a piece of lace through my Zyron machine to make it sticky. Then I adhered it to a piece of white cardstock, rubbing it down pretty good so that some of the sticky residue would stay on the cardstock when I pulled the lace off. Sure enough, it did! Not a flowery lacy pattern (YAY! I did NOT want that kind of look) but speckles all over the cardstock. I sprinkled on some yellow glitter and let it stick to the residue, then shook off the excess. That's how I made the background paper for the front of my card.

This is the inside of my card:

Kelly, THANK YOU for a wonderfully fun challenge this month!!!

Be sure and check out the other Calendar Girl blogs to see what they made with Kelly's FUN theme... you'll find the links to their blogs in my left side bar.

This is my 65th card for the 100 Cards in 100 Days Challenge.

Now, let's take a PEEK AT MY WEEK!

A PEEK AT MY WEEK

1.      What was a highlight of my week?

I learned that one of my cards was chosen as a favorite in the Favorites for the Week thread on SCS. That’s always fun!

2.      What lesson/s did I learn this week?

That turn about is fair play can be very sweet! Let me explain. Usually if I’m traveling home and have an opportunity to stop at a Chipotle (and the weather is right) I’ll bring a “bowl” home for my husband. It’s a real treat, since the closest Chipotle is 1 ½ hours away. Well… this week, my husband was on a trip for a couple of days and he contacted me on his way home and said that he’d bring me a Chipotle “bowl” if I’d let him know what I wanted on it. YUM!

3.      What did I make this week?

I told you I wanted to try a new recipe this week, so I did. I made Creamy Tomato Spinach Pasta. It was okay. Not my favorite, but okay. I probably won’t ever make it again, though.

4.      What have I enjoyed doing this week?

The seniors in our church have a long-standing tradition. They gather every Monday in February and March for games and potluck lunch. Since my husband is the pastor, he and I get to participate, even though we’re really not old enough to do so. I really enjoy these times and they’ve taught me how to play a fun game – Chicken Foot. This week I thought about not going, since my husband wasn’t here, but I did go… and I had fun!

5.      If I could change one thing about this week, what would it be?

I’d have more days in it! (I’ve had a difficult time doing 7 days of “work” in 4 days.) Yikes!!!

6.      What did I do for this week’s 30-Minute Challenge?
What is a 30-Minute Challenge? It will vary from week to week, but basically, I am going to choose something to do – perhaps it’s an organization task that is calling out to me, or a topic I want to research, or (*gasp!) an exercise I want to try, etc. – and I will set the timer and invest 30 minutes in that challenge.

I had a pile gathering behind my desk and it was driving me crazy. Stamps, embellishments, treasures, etc. So I spent 30 minutes cleaning up that mess!

7.      What are my plans for the upcoming weekend?

I am actually already started with my weekend. LOL! Our state leadership is meeting at a quaint little inn for a Leadership Retreat three days this weekend. We’re bonding as a team, celebrating our history as an organization, and casting a vision for the coming year and beyond. I am so excited to be part of this group!

SCORE TIME: Would I give this week a “thumbs up” or a “thumbs down”?

My goals for the coming week…

1.      I will make the cards for a couple of swaps that I’m in and get them mailed.

2.      I will take the Snowman Decorations off the porch and put them away for another year.

3.      I will try another new recipe this week.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today! I’d love to hear what’s been happening in your life this week, too, so feel free to leave me a comment and tell me about it.
